This painting of St. Therese was done by Benedictine monks at the Beuron Abbey in Germany. We believe it was done soon after her canonization, as the style still possesses much of the original Beuron Art techniques of the mid 19th Century, the arrangement of the subjects with triangles and circles which the Beuron artists would quit using a little later in the 20th Century.

That style was noted for its formal calm, a kind of gravitas, but this picture also expresses the charm and warmth of our dear Saint. It has an icon look, but it also looks loving, a perfect combination for Therese. It even looks like her, too, which a lot of icons don't bother to do!

A note on her life you may not know, Therese coughed up some blood on a Good Friday. She knew it was tuberculosis, and that it was a death sentence, for there was no cure for it in Victorian times. But unlike you or me, who might panic and start begging God to heal us, she rejoiced in God her Savior! She was thrilled by it, and considered it a gift, that soon she would be with her loving Jesus! What a Saint, eh? A couple of years later, she did join him.

There is a white border around the image. About 0.5" for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11", 1.6" for 11x17", and 1.75" for 13x17", so the image is smaller than the paper!!!
